Newpapers only please, my be left at the tractor-trailer parked at the post office <parking lot on those days. =~ For a special pick-up, call 229~2700. The next drive will be early next September. HARD TIMES IN CABIN JOHN There Were hard times across the nation and in C.J. this winter, as several of our residents had neither enough food nor enough fue I during some of the coldest weeks. Things are likely to worsen in this obviously failing economy. At times like these, a commu- nity should grow even closer, lime a family, with each mem- ber lo~king for their neigh- bors without being solicitous. Come to the Citizens Association meeting to hear of the services available to everyone in need in this County and how to get them when you need them. Also discuss how we might be able to help each other. Our options are unlimited. We need to rely on each other. Cometo hear and be heard. “2 “~ .:’ ‘,~I~DR~N ‘ S ~Of,’~4ITTi’,’.:, …. ~. *~N JO!IN (CCCJ) !’~0 ;t .,.~.0 i ‘- b,v Y.ia Keefe & Mary Haas :!e are 8 girls who are trying to help the 3 & 4 “~ 01d Sch. earn more money. ‘,’ie will be selling home~ade baked goods, pot- :- I:~ ~ ° necklaces at the C.J. EXCERPTS FROM CITIZEN’S ASSOC. LETTER TO MONTGOMERY COUNTY PLANNING BOARD DIRECTOR ROYCE HANSON, BY ALLEN VAN EMMERIK Re: MACARTHUR SQUARE …MacArthur Square was not designed with Cabin John in mind. The … proposal is out of scale not just a little, or within any reasonable scale range, but three or four times as large as it should be… Cabin John does not oppose commercial development of the site in question. But we do categorically oppose develop- ment in which we have no voice. The piecemeal fashion in which this project is proceeding will countenance major develop- ment at the heart of Cabin John, outstripping our ability to be heard in our own defense on the merits of development as a whole. Cabin John does not oppose commercial development on the tract in question, providing it is in keeping with the scale and character of Cabin John. We are willing to work toge- ther with the developer and the County toward an alterna- tive accomodating the needs of all three. But the Community has been canvassed thoroughly on this plan, and I have no hesitation in saying that no one favors the scope of this plan.
