Scrap Metal Recycling Challenge
From March 1, 2008 to April 18, 2008 Cabin John and Carderock Springs are partnering with the nationally recognized Montgomery County Division of Solid Waste Services in a fun challenge to see which neighborhood can collect the most large and small scrap metals -- everything from old appliances to nuts and bolts.
During this time period, the County will weigh all metals collected in both neighborhoods. Any item, except aluminum or bimetal cans and aluminum foil, that is at least 50% metal is allowed.
Small and medium sized metals should be deposited in the metal recycling container that the county has placed at the Clara Barton Community Center. Large metals - such as appliances - will be picked up at the curb outside your home, if you call the County Recycling Hotline at 240-777-6410, no later than 11:00 a.m. the day before your usual trash/recycling pickup day. The county will record the address of all pick-ups, and add the weight to the community total.
For more information on the Scrap Metal Recycling Challenge, see the March 2008 issue of the Village News. The Cabin John contact is Jennifer Jordan, (301) 351-2059.
The Green Neighbor project is headed by Tom Rojas, (301) 320-2514, in Cabin John, and Martha Donnelly (301) 461-0272, in Carderock Springs.
Finally, please save coffee cans or other similar-sized cans & bring them to the following events. Neighbors and children can use them for collecting small metals.
